NBA Live Total and Pace Calculator
An NBA game is 48 minutes, so a game with 84 points after 18 is scoring at a 224-point pace, and one that keeps to a 228.5 pregame total for the last 30 minutes ends near 227. A live total is priced off those two numbers and everything else the book knows. Type the clock, the score and the lines to see both, and what the live over needs.
The live total against the pace
Type the clock, the score and the pregame numbers. See the final total if the scoring so far holds, the total if the rest of the game plays to the pregame number, and what the live line needs.

Spreads as the book shows them for your team: -4.5 is favored by 4.5. Overtime adds 5 minutes a period.
Two plain projections, not a forecast: the pace so far includes free throws, garbage time and hot shooting that may not last, and the pregame rate assumes the rest of the game plays as the market expected before tip-off. Where the live line sits against them is the market's view; which way to lean is your call. Overtime is projected at the pregame per-minute rate.
How do you work out an NBA game's pace?
Divide the points scored by the minutes played, then multiply by 48. The NBA rule book sets four 12-minute quarters and 5-minute overtimes, so minutes played are the quarters gone times 12 plus what has run off the current clock. With 6:00 left in the second quarter, 18 minutes are played and 30 are left.
| Clock | Played | Left | Points so far | Pace (48 min) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| End of the 1st | 12:00 | 36:00 | 52 | 208.0 |
| 2nd, 6:00 left | 18:00 | 30:00 | 84 | 224.0 |
| Halftime | 24:00 | 24:00 | 118 | 236.0 |
| 3rd, 4:00 left | 32:00 | 16:00 | 150 | 225.0 |
| 4th, 2:00 left | 46:00 | 2:00 | 210 | 219.1 |
That is points a minute, not possessions. Analysts' "pace" usually means possessions per 48 minutes, which needs play-by-play data; points a minute is what you can work out from the score bug in a few seconds, and it is what a live total is quoted in.
Why the calculator gives two projections
The pace so far assumes the rest of the game scores like the part already played. The pregame rate assumes the rest scores as the market expected before tip-off: the pregame total divided by 48, times the minutes left, added to the points already on the board. Neither is the answer. A quarter of hot shooting or free throws can flatter the pace, and a pregame number knows nothing about an injury or a lineup change since. The calculator shows where the live line sits against both, and the scoring rate the live over needs from here.
Our NBA live betting strategies guide describes one case bettors watch: a game expected to be high-scoring that has a slow first quarter on poor shooting, where the live total can fall below where the game's real rate would put it. The calculator does not say whether that has happened; it shows the numbers you need to judge it.
The spread, scaled to the time left
A pregame spread of -4.5 is the market's expected margin over 48 minutes: about 0.09 points a minute in your team's favor. With 30 minutes left and your team up 4, playing the rest to that number ends with a margin of 4 + 4.5 × 30 ÷ 48, about 6.8. A live spread of -3.5 needs more than 3.5, so that projection beats it by about 3.3. It is a check on how far the live line has moved from the pregame view, not a prediction of the margin.
