Live NBA player props are points, rebound and assist markets that sportsbooks keep repricing after tip-off, with the running box score, the clock and the game state as inputs.

The markets now make up a large share of NBA betting. In-game prop handle rose from about 25% in 2022 to more than 40% in the 2024-25 season, according to Last Word On Basketball.

A typical regular-season game carries 140 to 220 named player markets at DraftKings, including rest-of-game points, rebounds and assists, according to a Tech Insider guide.

How the price is rebuilt every few seconds

Live odds come from an automated trading model that starts from the pregame number and updates as game data arrives, according to BetSmart. The model turns a current probability into odds after adding the book's margin.

The inputs include score, lead size, time remaining, possession, timeouts, foul counts, and injuries or ejections, BetSmart said. A player prop has one more input: the stats the player has already recorded.

A full-game prop keeps its original line, and only the price moves. A pregame 24.5-point prop at -110 can move to about -250 once the player has 19 points by the middle of the third quarter, according to How Does NBA Betting Work. The price reflects the expected scoring rate from that point on.

A rest-of-game prop posts a new line that counts only what happens after the bet is placed, Tech Insider said. That is the market that appears to reset as the box score fills in.

Markets reprice every 1 to 3 seconds during play, according to Tech Insider. They pause at dead balls, free throws and commercials, then reopen at a refreshed price.

Why props go dark

Books suspend markets during fast-developing plays "so nobody can bet at a price that no longer reflects reality," said Eric Pauly of BetSmart. Suspensions usually last 1 to 5 seconds, How Does NBA Betting Work reported.

A change in a player's status can reprice a whole set of markets at once. When a star fouls out, automated systems can reprice team and player markets before human analysts register the event, 15M Media reported.

Some props are not offered at all. After federal charges were filed on October 23, 2025, against more than 30 people, including player Terry Rozier and coach Chauncey Billups, most operators delisted low-volume props, particularly minutes-played markets, according to How Does NBA Betting Work. Live props on lower-usage players were also tightened. Core counting-stat props on starters remained.

The available sources do not document a fixed point in an NBA game when live props close for good. They describe suspensions tied to plays and status changes, and markets removed by policy.

Where the lag shows up

A sportsbook's data feed runs 1 to 3 seconds behind the court, and the displayed price runs 2 to 8 seconds behind after processing, according to How Does NBA Betting Work. Cable broadcasts lag 5 to 15 seconds and streams lag 10 to 30 seconds, the same source said.

Bet acceptance takes time as well. In the 2026 playoffs, measured acceptance latency was 1.4 seconds at DraftKings, 1.7 at FanDuel, 2.1 at BetMGM, 2.4 at Caesars and 2.6 at ESPN BET, according to Tech Insider. Those gaps separate the apps that handle in-play markets from the slower ones.

DraftKings defines an obvious error as "odds that are materially different from those available in the general market at the time the bet was placed," and reserves the right to void such bets, according to its House Rules filed with the Massachusetts Gaming Commission.

Not the same bet as the pregame prop

The two markets settle under different protections. DraftKings' Early Exit refund for injured players does not apply to live player props, CBS Sports reported.

Feature Pregame prop Live prop
When placed Before tip-off After the game has started
Price based on Projection for the full game Current game state and stats already recorded
DraftKings Early Exit Applies if injury occurs in Q1 (regular season) or first half (postseason) Does not apply
Hold Lower Commonly wider, per BetSmart

Both types are void if the player never appears. Once a player appears, even briefly, the bet stands on final stats, and an in-game injury does not void it, according to Action Network.

Checks before a live prop

The first check is whether the market is a full-game line with a moved price or a rest-of-game line with a new number. The two count different stats.

The second is the price against the time left. A player's existing total is already built into a full-game price, and live hold runs wider than pregame, BetSmart said.

The third is settlement. A live over carries no injury refund at DraftKings, according to CBS Sports. How these markets fit into wider in-game strategy depends on those three answers.
